Much is written about how patient recruitment can either accelerate or undermine clinical trial success. But how is the industry approaching patient recruitment in general? China has eased requirements for companies to qualify for government purchasing of technology after a plan to favor domestic technology was met with heavy criticism.

There are two: a traditional Medicare plan run by the federal government and Medicare Advantage, which is run by private insurance companies. Medicare Advantage costs more than the traditional plan, but provides more generous benefits.

A study by CVS Caremark (NYSE: CVS), published this week in the American Journal of Pharmacy Benefits, finds that insurance benefit designs that reduce the cost of medications for plan participants result in patients being more likely to start and stay on their medication therapy.
